Centro Internazionale di Scienze Meccaniche CISM Lab, Udine

The International Centre for Mechanical Sciences (CISM) is a non-profit organisation, founded in 1968 by European scientists to favour the exchange and application of the most advanced knowledge in the mechanical sciences and related fields. In December 2006 CISM founded its off-spring CISM Lab (SME). CISM-Lab (www.cismlab.it) collects the expertise of CISM acquired during its research activity and makes it available through high level consulting. CISM-Lab now carries out also the main research activity at CISM. In particular it continuously updates the code COMES-GEO to keep it at the most advanced level. The code COMES-GEO (www.dic.unipd.it/addc/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=337&Itemid=2) is probably the most advanced code for chemo-thermo-hydro-mechanical problems in porous media available. Beyond the above research problems COMES-Geo has found application also in the field of bio-medical engineering, in particular for soft tissue mechanics (spinal disc, trabecular meshwork in the eyes).

CISM staff (now CISM-Lab researchers) took part in many European Research projects. CISM-Lab is a centre of excellence in porous media mechanics. Besides the consulting and research activity CISM-Lab organizes advanced courses for professional training.
