Functionally graded aluminum-alumina composites for brake discs application (Aluminum-Alumina)

Status

Running.

Production of samples of porous Al2O3 ceramic preforms infiltrated with molten aluminum alloy AlSi12 and by hot pressing technique (HP) using  AlSi12 and Al2O3 powder mixtures.
Thermal conductivity, fracture analysis, flexural strength, neutron diffraction measurements and FEM analysis of thermal residual stress.
Future activities: wettability of molten aluminum alloy and alumina, abrasiveness of AlSi12/ Al2O3 composites at room and elevated temperatures, mechanical properties of sintered AlSi12/Al2O3 composites, resistance to thermal shocks.
